Thanks you to @bgebookclub for my FRSTEE; apparently his head indicates how many followers I have. Does his head look big? (Taken with instagram)
Gilles Peterson is leaving Radio 1. Which is a shame, and a minor travesty, as he had the makings of their next John Peel - a man as in love with music in his middle-years as when he was a child, and one who proved that being young shouldn’t be a mandatory for a youth station.
Still, they obviously didn’t appreciate him, as the ever more ridiculous slots they gave him proved. So if leaving Radio 1 means he gets a slot at a decent hour (8-10pm on a Sunday, on 6Music?), so he can do what he’s been doing for 25 years, then this might just be a good thing.
As this show from 25 years ago shows, Gilles shares something else with Peel - a voice that appears to have changed beyond recognition over the years.
